The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith

4.0

I don’t typically write reviews, but I value them greatly - Goodreads is a place for readers to recommend and discuss with other readers - and this particular review board has drifted into an alternate direction which I personally believe should live elsewhere. I think average rating of 4+ stars speaks greatly to the likability of this book with the hundreds of 1 star non-content-related reviews weighing it down.

I would give this a 4.5. I was gripped for the entire novel. The phonetic spelling greatly helps shape the characters [which I’ll give bonus credit as it must be very annoying to write (I’m sure spell check would be a nightmare), so the extra effort is appreciated and noted]. The subject is creative. The clues are clever and litter the book. I did not love the ending, it wrapped up abruptly and dramatically which I felt did not match the tenor of the rest of the novel. This is the only reason I wouldn’t give it a solid 5.

If you don’t like 1000+ page books for the sole reason of length, I’d suggest not reading. I love long books if they hold you the whole time (which this one did), more to enjoy. I would not want it any shorter - unless Charlotte were to be removed - I’m personally over her.
