Emma Theriault - “Rebel Rose”

“The curse is now broken. Now Belle must rise to become Queen”

This brief synopsis above is what made me buy the book. I am a HUGE fan of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and to have the chance to read a story that follows Belle and her Beast after their happy ending was a must!

Set in the Kingdom of Aveyon and against the historic backdrop of the 1789 French Revolution this story follows Belle and Lio as chaos falls against Paris and seems to spread to other parts of France, including their home in Aveyon and asks the question. What can they do to help the kingdom the love?

Emma’s writing and continuation of the story that is a “tale as old as time” is beautiful. The narrative is perfectly paced, especially when reaching the books climax, and the characters have so much depth behind them! Even the new ones we are introduced to in this book. I felt myself loathing certain characters and I believe this is due to her writing style. Belle, Lio, Cogsworth, Mrs Potts and Lumiere feel so real and like they actually lived in this time. I thought this novel was fantastic and a real jewel to read! A must have for any Beauty and the Beast fan.

I know this is book one in the “Queen’s Council” series. So will be picking up the next as soon as I can! Also will be looking for more books by Emma.
