I usually cannot stand ‘classic’ literature and find it insufferable, however The Great Gatsby was the exception. The language and imagery were beautiful and made reading this novel feel like reading artwork. In modern literature usually only one or two characters are truly fleshed out and thought through, however in Gatsby every character, no matter how small, had their complexities. This really allows for the reader to relate and get to know the characters on a personal level. My only issue with the novel was that it was a little too open ended for my taste. There are a lot of mysteries throughout the book and some never get solved, which was the author’s intent, but I like everything to be wrapped up neat and tidy. I definitely recommend!
