What's Left of Us
by H.N. DeFore
This final book hit hard in all the best ways. It’s emotionally heavy, incredibly raw, and deeply satisfying as a conclusion to a story that’s been building toward this moment from the beginning. I’ve been fully invested in Alastair, Jo, Vinny, and Sterling, and watching their journey come full circle was both devastating and healing. The way they continue to show up for each other, even while carrying so much trauma and uncertainty, really stuck with me.
The author doesn’t shy away from hard emotions. There’s heartbreak, anger, fear, and grief—but also so much love and growth. The story picks up quickly and doesn’t let go. I found myself flipping pages late into the night, desperate to know how it would all come together. The way the characters navigate justice, identity, and their tangled relationships felt incredibly grounded despite the chaos around them.
The spicy scenes are steamy and intense, but they also serve as moments of comfort and connection between the characters. It’s rare to find a book where the emotional weight and physical chemistry are so well balanced. The author’s ability to weave the past and present, and bring two series of characters together in such a cohesive way, really impressed me.
This was the kind of ending that lingers. It doesn’t wrap everything up with a bow, but it lands exactly where it needs to. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time.
Thank you to the author and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to read this series early.
