A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen
5.0
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This book was amazing from the beginning. The hidden details, the character development, the tension, the history.
Was it a bit predictable? Sure. But aren’t all fantasy novels somewhat written the same? While some may complain that it was too much world building, that the twists were pretty obvious and that Freya spends a lot of time talking rather than doing, the way this book was written, makes all of that make sense.
It’s the first book in a series, and one of the first books in recent times about the Norse (that I’ve personally seen) so obviously it’s going to be a bit lore heavy. Saying that twists are obvious just means that you absorbed more of the book than most, making connections that others didn’t. It doesn’t draw from the fact that the ending was still shocking and makes you wonder where the story goes from here.
And finally, I’d like to see how many people would do the exact same things Freya did. After being beaten down for so long, you can’t just expect her to be this amazing badass warrior. She’s going to make mistakes, she’s going to make enemies of the wrong people, she’s figuring shit out. And I can’t wait to see her character development!
