The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music by Dave Grohl

5.0

Some fairly random but interesting anecdotes about Grohl's life. I enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book more which went through his journey and thoughts to the height of his fame, as he comes across relatively grounded and relatible but definitely a character. The last 3rd is mainly just a geek out of him meeting various musicians he looked up when he was younger that his high level rock status has allowed, which I can understand but was a bit boring from this readers point of view though I can totally appreciate it from his, so fair enough it is his book. The love for his family especially his mother is obvious which is sad( she passed not long after this was published I believe)but heartwarming to know even in nirvana, the anti establishment poster boys, he still was his mum's best friend. All the way through the book as he makes reference to his friend Jimmy and Cobain and the challenging time in Nirvana and then finding such a wonderful friendship in Taylor Hawkins. It's just really heartbreaking that Hawkins was another talented musician that fame had a part in his early death. As Growls friend I really hope he read this book before he passed to know how much he was loved. If you like Dave Grohl's music I'm sure you'll like this book.
