Mortal Engines
by Philip Reeve
Abandoned a bit over halfway through.
Writing isn’t great, poor grammar.
It’s a pity as I really liked the concept of the setting, but somehow the parts don’t add up to a reasonable tally.
Having recently read the Chaos Walking trilogy, which is probably targeted at a similar age group, this does not compare favourably.
With regards to the writing, it feel like the writer got swept up in the world-building, but forgot to dedicate enough to the descriptions and motivations of the characters, which are a bit too 2D for my liking.
