Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

3.0

Nicholas Sparks certainly has a signature style, a formula that works for him, but his books aren't my favorites. I wouldn't have chosen this on my own, I read it for book group. At times the story and characters grabbed me and I wanted to know how it would all work out, but I found that when I put this book down, days went by before I picked it up again and I didn't really think about the story during those days in between.

Also, I wish there were less details about the mundane. I really don't need to know that John flipped the steaks on the barbecue, went inside for salt, etc etc.

All in all, it's what I expected: A sad romantic adventure.
