Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
2.0

It's not the worst book I've ever read, but it's a long way from the best.

I think I'm supposed to feel some kind of sympathy for these spoilt rich girls, but I really don't. The writing is not bad (after all, I did keep reading), though it comes across very much as a soap opera in book form (and I'm not fond of those). I also didn't like that it was clearly written with sequels in mind, and so not very much is resolved here - pretty much all the text is setting you up with the characters and their situations. I also didn't like that, for such an important character, we're not really shown much of Alison, and what we do experience of her makes me wonder why the girls were even friends in the first place.

I bought this book on a whim, because I'd heard a lot about it recently, but I don't think I'll be bothering with any of the others.
