Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro

5.0

I'm not really a fan of the short story. I like to dive into a book and stay there a while. I sometimes feel cheated when I really like a book but it ends too early, so I was surprised to enjoy this collection of short stories as much as I did. It is masterfully written. The characters are fully realized, complete individuals. The author shows a great deal of insight and understanding of how a person feels and their motivations. She showed a great attention to the little details of everyday ordinary life. The reader completely understands, though not necessarily agreeing with every thought these characters express. I don't know how many times I found myself thinking "Yes, that's just what I think sometimes without expressing it." I can't wait to get another book by this author.
