Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
3.0

It did supply some escapism. I really like maniscalcos writing. Her story telling was just a bit all over the place for this one. The first half was just a Victorian soap opera. Which even though I had a good time with it, considering this is a murder mystery about a career driven woman… idk it was just out of place. Then when we did get to actually investigating it was dreadfully obvious everything that was going on. We got physical traits of who the murderer was and then she met him multiple times and didn’t even consider that it could be him.

We got useless little snipers of all the characters from previous books.

I realized the reason I hated the escaping Houdini so much was because of Mephistopheles. He is so insufferable. I realized the most unpleasant time I was having with the book is when he was there.

But Thomas and Audrey despite being a little cheesy we’re cute most of the time and it was really fun being in this gothic little setting
