This book was a Christmas gift and was way out of my comfort zone. I rarely read books out of order in a series, and I could tell by the writing that the author was very entrenched in her world building and some things that she may have spent time explaining in previous books in the series were just left up to common understanding of people who have been following the series--but I do believe that if you are a follower of this series, the world building and character traits would have been natural for you to understand. The two main characters were likable and had quirks that made them entertaining to read about, however, the structure of the plot devices (the vivid flashbacks to the female MC's s*x trauma directly after intimate scenes with the male MC, the interesting use of the word "titillating", and the constant negative self-talk that the MC worked herself away from) were not to my taste.
