First Love
by Ivan Turgenev
mysterious
reflective
sad
medium-paced
Short but boring. And occasionally annoying.
I liked the beginning, I liked the ending (kind of), but a whole lot of uninteresting things happens in the middle. Maybe because of the lack of a hook, lack of likeable characters or maybe the lack of substance other than a 21 year old girl messing around with a 16 year old boy's feelings.
Beautiful descriptions, but for all they are, there are still a lot of things unsaid that don't make me understand at all why annoying characters do certain things.
I want to like this book because it has important themes, but at the end of the day, if I don't understand characters that are also unlikeable, then it's just going to make me frustrated at trying to get it or at its potential for what it could have been. Just as this book did.
