I'm still thinking about that ending

OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really Liked It

To anyone who has done something evil in the dark and believes it will never come to light.

You’re wrong. Your day of reckoning is coming.

I'm generally not a fan of thrillers because I don't like the anxiety and mindf*ck they usually put me through, but when I saw this on "Read Now" in NetGalley, I couldn't help myself. I've read and loved Vi Keeland's contemporary romances, which made me trust her writing style, so I knew there was a good chance I would enjoy it. I'm so happy that she did not disappoint! 😊

WHAT I LOVED 💕

💜 The storytelling sucked me in. It was effortless for me to connect with Elizabeth, and I loved that.

💜 I loved Elizabeth. She was proactive in finding answers, and even with her spiral from paranoia, the things she did to get them weren't as unhinged as I expected. My heart cried in sympathy for what she and Jocelyn went through. She was also a much better daughter than I am because I wouldn't have been as kind as she was if I had her mother.

💜 Not as convoluted and mindf*ckery as I expected. For huge psychothriller fans, this may be tame in comparison because even I, who's terrible at guessing plot twists in books, guessed some of the "surprises" that unfolded here. I did peek at the last chapter early to see if everything would be okay (which I really shouldn't have done), but what I found there was kind of obvious at that point. Still, I was curious enough to read the rest and find out how everything unraveled.

💜 I have a love/hate relationship with that ending. I still don't understand the writer's motivation for sending those chapters. Revenge is too broad, or rather, I don't get why they'd want to get revenge on Elizabeth after finding out the whole history. I hate that, but at the same time, I love that the author (Vi) left it hanging because I expect a good thriller to leave me with questions. I finished this book before I fell asleep, and when I woke up, one of my first thoughts was "WHYYY?" lol

DID I LAUGH? I giggled at that scene when Elizabeth and Noah met.
DID I CRY? Nope.

SWOON SCORE: 🦋 Flatlined

Didn't really expect there to be anything swoony about this book since it's not romance-focused, but I did meet a character who could've been swoon-worthy.

SPICE LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 Steamy but Tasteful

There was one on-page (dirty) spicy scene at a public restroom, and a bit of *exploration* by Elizabeth at some point. Language used is not overly explicit, meaning you won't find the word c*ck or p*ssy here if you're the type to search.

“You just have that look about you.”

"And what look is that?”

He grins. “Like you can eat a man alive.”

“Considering you’re standing here and just bought me a drink,
I take it you enjoy being eaten alive?”

“I don’t mind it.” He leans in, putting his mouth next to my ear, and whispers, “But I’m a gentleman, so I’ll always do the eatin’ first.”

DO I RECOMMEND THIS? ✅ YES 💯
