Apparently this is a reinterpretation of a story arc from Astro Boy. The protagonist is someone who was a minor character originally, and Atom/Astro Boy doesn't show up until the last pages. I've seen very little of Astro Boy, so I can't say much on similarities/differences between the two, but the story does seem to have some interesting ideas on the humanity of robots. As an aside, I really enjoyed the North #2 chapters.
