The concept of this book was an immediate sell for me, as a frequent fan of isekai as a subgenre. The idea of a female hero working through a nightmarish time loop in a fantasy world is so far up my alley I jumped on it. Unfortunately, the book didn’t live up to my expectations.

  1. Narrated by an obnoxious main character who cracks god awful jokes all the time. And wants to sleep with just about anything that moves. Deadpool-esque in the most annoying way.
  2. Pop culture references all over the place, and not just in the character’s thoughts but spoken out loud. A lot. And always leading to awkward interactions with other characters. I know this is meant to be funny, but all it gave me was second hand embarrassment for Davi. And frustration - she supposedly remembers little to nothing about her human life prior to a thousand years of time loops. But the narration reads like the diary of a chronically online teenager.

The plot itself was decent, and a part of me is curious to know how things play out in the second book. But I just can’t put up with Davi for another 300 pages.
