Allegiant by Veronica Roth

5.0

If you're reading up to here, I'm assuming you've already read the first two books in the series or don't mind getting spoiled. Well I'm mainly here to discuss that ending, which in my opinion was horrible. HOW COULD YOU JUST LEAVE US WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER DYING? On one hand I'm pretty upset at the author for kind of killing one of my favorite characters in the book, however, in another sense I'm kind of glad she left us with a huge ending. That way, I now know that the Divergent series definitely has head a huge impact on my life!

I had a lot of problems with Allegiant. For one thing, the characters got so frustrating in this novel! The main issue was seen between Tris and Tobias. Although throughout the end of the book they did seem as happy as any couple, it didn't make up for the way they behaved in the beginning of the book. We have Tobias, doing some pretty reckless and stupid things that make him seem like an entirely different person to Tris, and she doesn't see how she could ever forgive him. But, of course, miraculously she does. I thought the romance in this book was such a cop-out and it basically getting back together again, and fighting, but then getting back together again. I felt it wasn't as serious as other romances in YA novels, which ultimately led me to believe that their love was all about kissing and making up for their mistakes.

The action in this book was nonstop. I liked how Evelyn (the factionless tyrant leader, aka Tobias' mom) was a constant problem in the book, but one that could be solved with the love of her son. It is small things like that that really interest me in a book- big issues that can be solved by loved. There were so many gun scenes, so many bombs! It was incredible the way Veronica described all these action-packed settings.

Character deaths. The author decided to kill off one of the main protagonists in this book and although some of you guys seem so against that, I actually agreed with it. I wasn't satisfied because she was one of my favorite charaters as well, but at the same time, I didn't hate the author for doing it. Maybe because it called more attention to the death of characters. usually authors tend to just kill the minor characters off but Veronica decided to kill one of the main characters, and in doing so she really led her readers to mourn more often than we would in a regular YA novel.

The story behind the death. At first when Tris was shot and slowly losing blood, I didn't realize that she was actually dying. And this was due to the descriptive language of Veronica Roth, where she made the character's death seem like someone slipping away into darkness but she doesn't say out in the open that her character is indeed dying!

Allegiant has to be one of my all-time favorite books of the Divergent series and in general! You'll never get enough out of this series once you've read the ending and are satisfied with what happened in this book!
