Selected Stories of Anton Chekhov by Anton Chekhov
3.0
I was so hoping I'd love this book since I'd read such great things about him. I don't think he's a bad writer at all, but his subjects throughout this book were not to my liking at all.
His stories are bleak, depressing, hopeless, and sometimes, there really isn't even an ending. I found myself saying "What?? That's how he ended it?!" (if you can call that an end) Night after night of reading about sickness, mental disease, death, poverty, hopelessness, lost loves, unhappy love affairs, etc...has put me in a dark mood.
I also have a problem somewhat with the translation as it seemed sometimes that that just could NOT be what Mr. Chekhov could have really meant/wrote.
At the time I ordered this book I also ordered a book of his plays and one about his letters. Here's hoping I will like those better.
