Rooster Fighter, Vol. 1 by Syu Sakuratani

5.0

I should probably start by saying this manga was an awesome surprise because it succeeds exactly at what it is trying to do. I shouldn't have liked this--I normally like psychological, dark-leaning and mature manga--but I enjoyed this way more than I expected.

If the cover and the name 'Rooster Fighter' isn't already obvious to you, this is a manga that puts humour at the forefront. It uses absurdism really well and relies on established manga tropes that manga lovers will recognise. I'm not going to talk about how deep the plot was or how well-realised the characters were because that's really not the point of this manga.

I must have read this volume in no more than 40min, so if you're looking for a quick, hilarious read, you should definitely pick this up. I also read volume 2 in a heartbeat and it's probably even better.
