2.5

This book was presented as Bridget Jones meets Americanah, but it lacked the humor of the first and the prose of the latter.

The first half was banal, it felt like going through the motions of a depressed twenty something (of which I'm all too familiar) but didn't offer any new or interesting insights into the struggles of this age demographic. Queenie is struggling post break up and spends almost the entirety of the book pining over an absolute waste of space of a man, Tom. The only thing of interest I took away from it was when Queenie sleeps with her first circumcised penis. Which I thought was funny because the conversation is the same in America (but the opposite).

The second half of the story gained a lot of traction, and for a short period I was really enjoying where it was going, but ultimately it just didn't work for me. I didn't like Queenie, and was constantly frustrated by her decisions, but when she finally got herself together, she ultimately ended up making disappointing decisions.

(**COUGH COUGH** CASSANDRA)
Why was in barely addressed that she was "afraid to date black men"?

Darcy and Kayize were awesome, and I wanted to know more about them. Also THE COVER IS GORGEOUS!
