When I picked it up, I didn't realised it was going to be a horror story of a child being assaulted multiple times that ended in tragedy.
All La Esmeralda wanted to do was dance with her goat, have some fun & find her parents when men just had to come & ruin it all for her. Damn them all. I hate almost every single male character in this book. It was a genuine struggle for me to finish it because I was unfortunately not fully invested enough & lost interest by 30% in but I read through because I wanted to know if the Djali the goat will make it alive & spoiler alert she did 🎊💖 shout out to Mr.G for that, ily Gringoire for saving her 🫶
Anyways, awful awful ending. I hate how all these men were absolutely lusting over a child. Disgusting predatory behaviour. I felt bored, frustrated & sad throughout reading this book & the ending was just sad & tragic & a bit pathetic 💔 Esmeralda baby you deserve so much more 😔
