this was the same part I read in the Book of Legends novel, but hey it was free so no problemo. This scene actually got me to be sympathetic towards Apple actually this one and her talking about

when she fell in the well and decided she'd be safer in her storyline

in BoL. but yeah, it got me to think of her as less than a selfish brat...well not brat persay but yeah..
