I don’t think it’s fair for me to give this a rating because my expectation was a super-hyped, super-scary horror book. In reality, this is a super fascinating historical with horror elements. It reminded me of The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo - an incredibly gripping read, but I wasn’t in the mood for it right now. Also, I think the descriptive writing style of this book is probably better for people who can see imagery in their head.
