This is one of those books that I decided to read even though my expectations were low. To say that this book surprised me is an understatement. Wow I didn’t expect this book to be this good! The unbinding of Mary Reade is a story of a young person who is trying to find who they are while living the life of a pirate. We follow her while she gets to know Anne Bonny and the famous Captain calico Jack. Ofcourse this adventure doesn’t turn like supposed to.
The world building has been done beautifully. It feels really accurate for how we invision life in 1719/1720. The characters are lovable but they make mistakes, something that makes them believable. They learn a lot of the span of this book and while reading you see them grow!
Favorite quote:
People wanted to think that everything was black and white. Laws were laws, family was family, right was right and stond was wrong. Boy was boy and girl was girl. Her crew is was good and the pirates were evil. Life had revealed itself to be much more complicated.
I would for sure recommend this to lgbtq history nerds.
