A Farewell to Arms
by Ernest Hemingway
More of a 3.5 stars for me - mostly because I found Hemingway's dialogue style difficult to follow and Catherine Barkley pretty much completely insipid. But apart from that, I found the book rather fascinating. It read like a long train of thought, and I thought that the book was at its strongest during Henry's moments of contemplative reflection. In a way the exaggerations and flouncing feelings of the two main characters make sense within the desperation of wartime. Anyway, I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would and for that I am glad.
