Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard: A Peter Nimble Adventure by Jonathan Auxier

5.0

My son and I finished reading the second Peter Nimble book, Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard by Jonathan Auxier this morning. While this book brought the return of the Peter Nimble character, this book's star was really Sophie Quire. I had criticized the first book for not having a strong female character until well into the book, well this second book more than made up for any lack of female strength in the first book. Sophie and her father own a book shop and they are just trying to get by as Inquisitor Prigg is rounding up all of the nonsense aka stories which he plans on burning in a giant pyre. Sophie with the help of Peter Nimble and Sir Tode must track down four magical books and do her best to stop Prigg from ridding the world of it's magic contained in books. There were more quirky and delightful characters in this book, including the tigress, Akrasia. Sophie was so smart and I loved her love of books. The action was great and the message was even better. My son and I both loved it and agreed it was even better than the first. Auxier sent Peter and Sophie out on a new mission right at the end of the book, so I have high hopes for an equally great third book.
