Jonathan Darcy and Julia Tilney must, once again, ply their wits against a murderer- before the murder can take place! Someone keeps trying to kill or seriously injure Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and it shall not be borne! Though she’s as scandalized as any by a young gentleman and lady solving violent crime mysteries-gasp!- together, she wishes to benefit from their not quite respectable partnership, and both young people are escorted by their fathers to Rosings.
Our young heroes must contend with no shortage of possible suspects and no shortage of secrets those suspects keep that may or may not be motives for murder. Their fathers must suss out the motives and suitability of the other young person for their own. And everyone must brave the perils that come from living under Lady Catherine’s roof.
Gray kept me guessing until the end, and even got in a touching happy ending between Colonel Fitzwilliam and cousin Anne. All the while thickening the series’ plot by adding fathers not enthusiastic for Jonathan and Julia to continue their friendship or calling.
