Jurnalul seducatorului by Søren Kierkegaard

5.0

This book captivated and disturbed me while I was reading it, and now, a few days after finishing the first read, I find myself a little obsessed with it. I am disturbed not by the content of the novel, not by the antiquated view of gender or any kind of dirty-old-man feeling I might get from Johannes, the main narrator, but I am disturbed by my own willingness to forgive him his cruelty and selfishness -- by Kierkegaard's talent at seducing me as a reader. I feel like there is something in me that is too much a Cordelia of a reader, which is confusing. Kierkegaard worries me in such a way that I can only soothe my anxiety over him by coming back to his text.
