I really struggled on how to rate this one - I felt conflicted between giving it a 5 for how good it was and a 3 for how much I enjoyed/got it, and eventually my egotism won out in the end.
This is a spectacular and incredibly unique book, that’s beautifully written and boldly presented. The individual stories were captivating and I loved the insights into the lives of many queer people across Nigeria. The issue I had was that these were only insights, and as soon as I got to know a vignette, we had moved onto another. If and when these characters returned later on, I had difficulty placing them and only vaguely remembered their names. It was a bold and beautiful novel, just not the type of narrative that I prefer. I don’t think pausing my reading for 2 weeks to get through All The Young Dudes helped either, but these are the life decisions I’ve chosen to make.
