The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

5.0

I know next to nothing about Russian mythology and this book was a great introduction.

The world crafted here was brilliant, I loved this take on 14th century medieval Russia and all its glorious frozen beauty. The story was good but the most gripping element was the whimsical atmosphere this book swallows you into, it was full of magical creatures from myth and fairy tales incorporated brilliantly into the story.

Also, the way Vasya was written was quite impressive because despite her not conforming to the societal standards of that time about what a woman should be, she still felt like someone who truly belonged to that era.
