Interview with the Vampire
by Anne Rice
Brave storytelling choices deliver a heartfelt tale of longing, anguish, and desire in Interview with the Vampire. I've read little gothic or vampire fiction and approached this with expectations of bad action scenes and 101 ways to stick fangs into throats, but no, it's an above average book regardless of genre.
Rice's writing is solid, maybe a bit wordy but she communicates emotion better than many literary writers. The plot is creative and well delivered, darkness lurks with innovation and the characters have heart.
If you want some decent escapism that vividly features New Orleans and Paris give it a try. Nice surprise.
