This is definitely a plot driven book with a romantic pairing inside it and not a romance novel, so I have to give it some Grace about the weakness of the main pairing. Bound together by magic, Vic and Adam spend almost no time together during this book yet we're supposed to believe in the strength of their relationship. I am enjoying the plot parts and the Magical Parts in the world building but the love story is the weakest I've read in a long time and they feel kind of shoved together for whatever reasons are necessary to increase drama and Advance the plot. I like both of the characters and I hope book three does something to bring them together so they can actually earn the status the author wants us to believe they have.
