winterpromise31 's review for:
The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkien
First time reading Tolkien. After much debate with my husband, I decided to start with The Hobbit and then continue with the rest of LOtR. I'm not certain I would ever reread this book but I was definitely glad that I took the time to read it once. The story hooked me! I laughed out loud at several of the dialogs and read as fast as I could.
One of my favorite quotes -
"We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!" (Bilbo, 12).
I also really enjoyed this description of Smaug when he discovered his missing cup -
"His rage passes description - the sort of rage that is only seen when rich folk that have more than they can enjoy suddenly lose something that they have long had but have never before wanted" (228).
I do look forward to seeing the movie, though my suspicion is that it will hardly do the book justice.
