Ok.
There were points during this that I thought I would for sure end up with a 4-5 star rating and was already looking into getting the next three books.
But that ending was cuckoo-bananas plot wise.
At first I really liked this and was 100% captivated for most of the book- but fuck- it really went off the rails in the end.
The villains motivations felt flat and didn’t make sense to me. The constant threats of SA were too easily forgiven. So many horrific things happened and were said, but the FMC was all too eager to continue trusting everyone. Spoiler alert: I cannot fathom how a certain character has their own book later on in the series- that’s one hell of a redemption arc.
Also- ok- why basketball? Penelope paints these characters as dark, murderous and scary and it’s like- oh btw they are also pro basketball players. Never once does the pro basketball player ever have actual basketball duties in the whole book- like practice or games to go to- he just bounces a ball around his indoor court a few times and we call it good.
