Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

3.0

I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed that I didn't enjoy this book more than I did. The fact that Elisabeth works in a library with magic books instantly drew me in. The beginning was strong, and though some things were hazy (and continued to be throughout the entire book), I enjoyed the world building. Obviously I'm not the author so I don't get a final say in things, but I thought the plot was oddly paced and I genuinely felt like the story was over around 75% through. I appreciated that I couldn't necessarily guess what was going to come next; it just felt lopsided at points. The magic surrounding the books made almost no sense to me at all, and it was one of those upsetting moments in reading where you can't picture the scene the author is painting for you. And finally, the romance (thought it was obvious it was going to happen) felt like it was too rushed and the intimacy between the two came from little history. It was a fun book, but got muddled by confusing magic and a plot roller coaster.
