This book started off very well, and there were parts that I gasped at. However, it fell into YA tropes very fast and at the addition of The Boy I could tell exactly where the book was going to end up. I was disappointed we didn’t learn more about Tarlow or Thea quite frankly, and it seemed that the author decided to come up with random scenarios to bury her gays and kill off the other characters so that Thea and The Boy could get superpowers and be in love together. The book would have been much stronger as a stand alone novel, and I will not be reading the sequel, because I don’t need another Divergent/Delirum/Matched knockoff in my shelf.
