Intoxication by Charlene Namdhari

5.0

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend, and I was not disappointed. This book just hits all the emotion buttons, levels and everything in-between, and is so beautifully written.

This books focuses on Sia, who apart from her cousin, has no other loving family. She is cast adrift by her horrible aunt, so finds herself spiralling from one disaster to another. She meets the very dashing and delicious Drake (Prince) during one of these said disasters, and from that moment, there is a connection. There are a few further serendipitous moments that leads to a "date". Drake himself is unhappily married, in fact, it isn't a marriage, and throughout the book, more of this is uncovered. Sia and Drake share a very special evening, their mutual birthdays, and she gives him the greatest gift she has to offer, but fate has other plans.

Time marches on, and imagine the horror of meeting your soon to be father in law, only to have him be her 'Prince'. OMG my emotions were all over the place, but the sensitivity around certain taboo subjects was just beautifully addressed, and you could literally feel the connection between Sia and Drake. I absolutely have fallen in love with Charlene's writing, and the characters she has mentioned in this book, and cannot wait to read more. Highly recommend.
