After loving Thank You for Listening, I was shocked at how much I disliked this book! I found our FMC, Ella, rude, self-centered, and absolutely insufferable. To me, the story had a young adult vibe because of her inflated sense of self-importance and the way serious subject matter was treated so lightly. For example, we’re supposed to believe that, with her minimal campaign experience, she’s giving a pep talk to an assumed presidential nominee and convincing her not to drop out of the race? 😂😂 Shock or no shock, when her boyfriend tells her he has cancer, she makes it all about herself and storms out?? No, girl. And then his dad hates her (relatable 😂), yet we’re expected to believe that after only six months of dating, he’d ask for her advice on what they should do if his son really is about to die??? Come tf on. 😂😂
I’m sorry, but this book was completely unbelievable, and Ella was irredeemable in my eyes. I had been excited to read it so I could watch the Netflix adaptation, but now I won’t even bother.
