Guardian of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mallis
4.0
Thank you to BookSprout & the author for providing the ARC for my honest review.
I would rate this book 4.5 stars out 5 (I really wish we could do half stars). It was an amazing sequel to Daughter of the Drowned Empire. I read this book so fast. I actually read 70% of it in one sitting because I reached the point where I could not put it down to go to bed.
I loved seeing Lyre becoming a stronger, more confident warrior with the help of Rhyan. I dramatically gasped at every plot twist. And I went rabid for most of those scenes between Lyr and Rhyan. My emotions while reading this book swung to the extremes. If I wasn’t swooning at Rhyan and Lyre, I was getting ready to punch some fictional characters in the face. Which is a good sign that the book got me so engrossed that I was physically getting heated, just like the main character.
I am giving it 4.5 stars instead 5 because of more personal preferences. I personally think I would have liked if book one and two were combined as one book. It felt like one aspect of the story arc was completed while still setting us up for more to come. The end of book two was dirt of the ending I wanted in book one. There also were a few scenes where the conversations felt a little awkward to me. Like you could see the puppeteers hand directing. But I could be wrong. I may not think that during my reread.
Overall, I loved this book and this series. I’m just sad that I have to wait now for the next book to come out to see if any of my theories are correct.
