The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz

5.0

Took me some time to get through, but so worth it.

I have only read one of Doyle's works about Sherlock Holmes and John Watson (the very first), but this one by Horowitz is as close as anyone gets, I imagine. It is not surprising that Horowitz who has written episodes for Poirot and Midsomer Murders would be able to write a Sherlock novel, but that it was nearly equal to the works of Doyle is definitely a pleasant surprise.

The novel was off to a bit of a slow start, but that is how every mystery I've ever read starts and then you find yourselves not being able to sleep at 2 a.m. because you only have a few chapters left, and you need to know! It is addictive, and Sherlock Holmes in particular, always loving an audience to perform before, relishes the chance to unravel every bit of the mystery no sooner than just before the very end (while you are nervously watching the right part of your book become more slim by the minute and wonder whether everything will be resolved before the pages go blank).
