colinandersbrodd 's review for:
Raven Black
by Ann Cleeves
A mystery set against a fascinating background . . .
A friend asked me if I had heard of Up Helly Aa (which, of course, I had) because she learned of the festival through this novel. Shetland (under its Viking name of Hjaltland) actually features in my one published novel to date, and I have long been fascinated by Shetland, so I chose to take the question as a recommendation of this novel. I am not the greatest fan of mysteries, but I feel this is a competently executed one, and set against the fascinating backdrop of Shetland . . . Well, suffice to say that I may read more of Cleeves' novels, and may try to watch the BBC series "Shetland" based on those novels . . .
