The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich
3.0
I liked this book. I liked the writing style and getting the snippets of difference perspectives. I feel pretty neutral about it. It was not super plot forward and definitely focused more on the people. But it wasnt as deep as I think it could have been. For instance, both Crystal and Kismet are in this awful position with both Martin and Gary and yet it doesnt seem to occupy their mind very much. Or how it occupies their mind is very weird. Gary was barely a character to me. I didnt like him - he was nothing in a way that I dont think contributed to the story. It was weird to me that Kismet married him - she seems so strong but then repeatedly is very flaky and lets men dictate her life. Overall I am left wanting more than what it gave me. i dont feel satisfied. The farming piece was interesting, it was definitely a book that focused on the human connection to land.
Yeah i think this book did not resonate with me at all. Felt like it was trying to be meaningful and poignant and just wasnt? But i read the whole thing and was fairly invested.
