This is unlike anything I have ever read. A unique and deeply intricate literary folk novel where memory, experience and perception are constantly in question. Ishiguro masterfully writes what appears to be a simple story of a husband and wife journeying to find their son, but you are left questioning everything - what is true and certain in a world where memory no longer exists? Every event is left open to interpretation and misinterpretation, not just for the characters but for you as the reader. The style adds to the fragmented, wistful and intangible atmosphere you feel you are right there with Axl and Beatrice right until the very end.
