I briefly thought I was going to rate this a 4, because while I was enjoying it, at first I felt like it was just fleshing out the lives of some of the secondary characters of the earlier books. Seeing Pheris come into himself was great, but it felt more like the beginning of a series than its conclusion.
Boy was I wrong, and why did I ever doubt? This book picks up the threads set out by the earlier books, and carries on beautifully before pulling them all together in a way that feels like a very satisfying end to the series and offers answers to what comes after for these characters without feeling like it closes out the world.
I'm impressed. And I still love the interweaving of the actions of humans and gods throughout the series, and find the scenes where humans and gods interact or people react to supernatural messages *so cool*.
