Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

The first two times I tried reading this book I did not finish. These books contain a lot of jabs at Christianity that I don’t like personally. So the third time I told myself to get over it and just try to finish the book.

Overall, I had many good times while reading this book. I think I cried a few times and got very excited at many points. I think I would enjoy this book more if I understood 80s references to video games. Sometimes these references become repetitious and boring after a while. These people are literally obsessed with this Halliday dude and treat his Almanac like a Bible of sorts. I don’t necessarily like all that obsessive points, but I think the author is trying to make a point to enjoy and make the best of reality because that’s what’s real and that’s all we’ve really got.

The writing is pretty good, making the book hard to put down most of time. It does seem to be written for a younger audience as well as certain moments seem brushed off, far fetched, or just too perfectly time to be considered realistic.

I liked the characters and the overall plot. Some points I believe were too cheesy or awkward for me. I won’t go into details to spoil the book.

Overall, it was enjoyable and I docked 1 star for some moments I didn’t like or thought were unnecessary.
