Starling House
by Alix E. Harrow
I absolutely adored this book! It was beautifully atmospheric with the "haunted" house taking on a character role itself. Setting descriptions can make me fall so hard for a book! And the imagery in Starling House/it's writing style played a strong part in it becoming my favorite. The definition of show don't tell is used throughout leaving me wanting to jot down my favorite lines. A perfect blend or real, heartwarming, relatable and spooky. I feel like I was fully the target audience for this book. Strong female main character, loyal protagonist, exceptional setting, interesting conflict, the dark fairytale element??? Perfection.
"After a while the loneliness become so dense and rancid almost like a companion itself"
"This is what it looks like when you swallow all you are hunger. When you want what you can't have. So you bury it like a knife between your ribs"
This book is tied for my favorite read this year with The Cruel Prince. I strongly recommend! And then call me after I want to know what you think..
