Traitor's Blade by Sebastien de Castell
4.0

I don't normally like novels written in first-person. I get bored with the sameness of it all. Plus the fact that the POV character usually has plot-armour the likes of which few protagonists that are written about in the third-person do.

But Sebastien de Castell more than managed to capture my attention with his tale of sword-fights, treachery and oaths. (Soo many oaths.) And there were moments where I could barely put the book down.

But the last 50 pages isn't quite the "knock it out of the park" ending I was hoping for. There's also a truly silly sequence involving people in a crowd being able to say anything they want without fear of reprisal from the many, many guards standing around them. Yet those same guards manage to get to anyone else they want to quite easily.

Nevertheless, de Castell has a new fan and, despite the first-"personness" of it all, I'm going to be back for Book 2 to see what else befalls our not-so-merry band of carry-over characters.

3.5 (Rounding up to 4) Oaths to Be Kept for Traitor's Blade.
