Surviving The White Gaze: A Memoir
by Rebecca Carroll
challenging
emotional
reflective
medium-paced
This is a powerful memoir to be sure - Carroll was adopted by white parents and grew up in a community that didn't "see" race. All of these stars are for the strength of the story and storytelling, but the writing itself made it tricky to get through for me. I can't really put my finger on why. I also listened to it on audiobook and enjoyed the narration, so maybe if you're reading through reviews looking to see if you can give this book a try, that might be the way to go!
