The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

5.0

This book was easy to get sucked into, but a bit hard to read. By that I mean the reading wasn't effortless, it was dense and a struggle at times, but I wanted to work at it and triumph over it. A bit like the stubborness of the characters, I guess. Granted, some of that "struggle" could have been the continued use of Irish/Celtic-ish words like capall uisce (CAPple ISHka) and general foreignness of the environment to me, but I still loved the characters and their stories and look forward to future readings.

My only complaint, if you can count it as such, was that the ending came before I expected it to. The eBook had the 'end' coming at 90%, followed by bonus content and previews. So whereas I was expecting a very long resolution, all I got was 2 chapters following the race. Not bad per say, but just not what expecting from the information given to me. It still made me tear up a bit, which I say gives it a pass.
