Strong character development:
Yes
Loveable characters:

Flaws of characters a main focus:
Complicated
The writing isn't anything special, and the Knox scene was completely unnecessary. The book has a few more details than the film, but in my opinion, the film is still better and more impactful.
Minor: Sexual assault
